In retirement annuity there are two phases namely accumulation phase and payout phase. In accumulation phase you will have to invest a certain amount of money towards the annuity and in payout phase you will receive returns comprising of the principal amount invested by you along with the earnings on investment. You may either take this amount in lump sum or in regular monthly installments. Hence, this annuity provides a steady flow of income to the people after retirement and enables them to lead a financially secured life without any worries because most of the people have to suffer financial crunches after retirement.
Similarly, fixed annuities also provide an income to the people and help them lead a good life without any financial tensions. These annuities provide guaranteed but limited returns on investment because they carry low risk. Thus, the annuity holder can receive assured income for a specified period of time as agreed upon in the contract or even for lifetime. Fixed annuity plans are of two types: one that provides immediate payouts and the other that provides deferred payouts to the people who have invested their money.
However, it is very important to gather all the information about the features of fixed annuities before investing so that you can get what you want. The first and foremost feature is that they provide fixed rate of returns to the investors where the rate of interest depends on the condition of the market at the time of taking the contract and at the time of maturity. Another very important feature of these annuities is that they are tax deferred which means that the tax will be applicable at the time of withdrawal allowing the money invested by the investors to grow.
