Though it might be difficult, a face-to-face conversation will be appreciated by your girlfriend's parents.Whether you are a traditionalist yourself or simply seek to honor the wishes of your future bride, you might be planning to receive a blessing from her parents before getting down on one knee. Though the tradition is daunting, remember that your girlfriend's parents were once in the same position as you and your girlfriend, and her father was probably just as nervous as you are. If you take a deep breath and approach the situation with honesty and respect, you'll have no reason to worry.
Instructions
1 Establish a bit of a relationship with your girlfriend's parents. Feeling comfortable with one another will put you more at ease when approaching them for permission and will make them more likely to consent. Try to meet them at least once before popping the question.
2 Speak to her parents privately. Arrange this in advance if possible. Choose a setting that will make everyone comfortable, such as a dinner or coffee outing. Plan to speak to a far-away parent at a time when a face-to-face conversation can be held. Avoid asking for a parent's blessing over the phone unless absolutely necessary.
3 Address both of your girlfriend's parents. Show respect by including her mother in what used to be a practice reserved for fathers only. Parents are likely to recognize and appreciate your gesture. Attend to your girlfriend's individual family situation as necessary. Speak to each parent individually in the case of a divorce, the parent who raised her or other parental figures in her life from whom she would seek approval for a major life decision.
4 Tell them how much you love their daughter. Feel free to name particular traits you find most lovable, Tamil matrimony as it will compliment them in turn as the ones who raised her. Be genuine and personal. Showing your true feelings will not work against you.
5 Discuss your intention to marry their daughter. Be direct and show your absolute dedication to her. Explain to them how happy it would make you to spend the rest of your lives together, and vow to respect and care for her forever.
6 Be prepared for questions, especially if you are meeting her parents for the first time. Explain your financial plans, if the topic arises. Show confidence in your plans at all times, as her parents will be seeking reassurance that their daughter will be in good hands.
7 Ask politely for both parents' blessing. If they still have questions, answer them reassuringly. Work out any loose ends together that might hold them back from full approval of your marriage. Even though the decision to take that leap is ultimately their daughter's, her parents' disapproval is not an ideal first step.
